Release of Information

All FOIA requests should be submitted to the Kane County Coroner's Office located at 37W699 IL,​ Rt. 38, St. Charles IL 60175.  Requests can be submitted in person, by fax (630-232-3431) or by email (kellymaure​en​@kanecountyil.gov) in written form. 

Kane County Coroner case information will not be released until the case is closed. Information can be obtained by immediate family members and/or insurance companies.

The Freedom of Information Act allows for non-family members to obtain reasonable information concerning a decedent if that person has a good reason to have said information. However, this can be denied.

Under the State Statute (Public Act 96-1161 of Illinois Revised Statutes) the office of coroner is to charge for specific documents. These fees are listed below:

  1. Autopsy Report $50.00
  2. Toxicology Report $25.00
  3. Coroner's Report of Death $25.00
  4. Inquest Transcript $5.00 per page
  5. Verdict Sheet (included in transcript) $5.00
  6. Miscellaneous Reports $​25.00 each
  7. Photographs (by court order only) - $5.00 per disk

Not every case will warrant all of the above tests and/or documentation. Furthermore, only those documents generated by our office will be available.
